Fairview occupies a corner of the Peace River Country rich in resources, industry, agriculture, education, art, tourism and recreation opportunities. We are the “heart of the Peace.” Visitors comment on the warm hospitality and unique diversity of our people. Fairview provides services to the oil and gas, forestry, construction, agriculture, tree nursery and tourism industries. It is ideally located at the junction of three major highways. From May to September the tourist information facility at the entrance to town on Highway 2 is open. Fairview is a beautiful, clean town, a national winner in beautification with excellent medical, education, shopping, recreation and service facilities.Major events include the Peace Classic Wheels Street Spectacular Car Show in June, Lions Country Music Festival in June, Kids’ Fest in June, Fairview Amateur Rodeo, and the North Peace Bracket Racing Assoc. Drag Races throughout the summer. Visit the Fine Arts Centre to view or purchase unique northern art. History buffs will enjoy our museums.
The beautiful Cummings Lake Recreation Area, two km north on Highway 732, offers a lovely little fishing lake (perch and trout) with campground, group camping, baseball diamonds, horseshoe pits, playground and the Cummings Lake Trail. This 11 km trail wanders through town, country, golf course, wetlands, boreal forest, play fields, campground picnic areas and historic museum site. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Many varieties of wildlife have also been spotted. Canoeing on the lake is nothing less than therapeutic. We have a full bathroom/shower facility located in the campground.
Fairview Golf Course is a well-established 9-hole course boasting grass greens, pro shop, lounge, restaurant and campground. Enjoy a coffee, cold drink or great meal on the large veranda, surrounded by fragrant flowers and stretching out to a breathtaking vista of the course.
The Fairview Regional Aquatic Centre provides a competition sized pool, water slide and Jacuzzi! It is located on the NAIT Fairview Campus, attached to the Recreation Centre. Other recreation facilities include the arena, tennis courts, curling rink, golf course, ball diamonds and residential parks.
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology provides post-secondary education in Fairview on one of the most beautiful campuses in Alberta. It is the jewel of Fairview. Serving students from around the globe, the college provides secondary education in agriculture, trades and business. For the traveler, a stroll around the beautiful campus is comparable to a walk in the best gardens and parks in the province. The weight room and racquet courts in the Recreation Centre are open to the public. A par-three pitch and putt is located by the pond on campus. Visitors are welcome.
In Fairview, summer days are long, allowing plenty of time for friendly talk around a kitchen table or outdoor campfire, music, dance and breathing in our clean, fresh air. What’s not to like?
Municipal District of Fairview
If you are looking for a place that offers beautiful camping spots, picnic areas, activities, music, and fun for the entire family, make your way to the MD of Fairview. We are located just north over the majestic Dunvegan Bridge, as you cross the Mighty Peace River. Completed in 1960, it is the longest gravity-anchored suspension bridge in Alberta.Have a picnic at the Maples Park, located west of the Dunvegan Bridge. There is lots of space for the family to relax, take in the spectacular scenery of the river valley and walking trails.
Drag racing enthusiasts can enjoy Bracket Racing throughout the summer months, almost every weekend at the Fairview Airport, located 5 km west of Fairview.
Chuckwagons, bucking broncs, steer wrestling and good ol’ western fun, come to the Fairview Amateur Rodeo, 6 1/2 km south of Fairview, June 20-22.
For great family fun, attend the Bluefest in the hamlet of Bluesky, 10 km east of Fairview, the third weekend in August.
